Signs You Have Too Much Stuff and Obvious Things You Have to Declutter | Minimalism Series

When we look at a room, we would obviously know if there's too much stuff or clutter. But when you live in that room, you become blind to that clutter as you get accustomed or comfortable with your surroundings. However, if you want to identify if you have too much stuff, here are situations and sure signs that you need to declutter ASAP:
- You have too many "just in case" items. For some reasons, we often keep items labeled as "just in case". You know, "Just in case I go hiking again.", "Just in case I travel to this and that." Lately, I also decluttered the clothes "Just in case I loose weight." I admit, I gained a lot of weight after travelling and it will take some time to loose it. The reason I also decluttered these clothes because my style has changed. All my short shorts and super fitting clothes are now for donation or given to my cousin.
- You constantly rearrange/organize stuff and you keep buying organizers. When I was younger, it would take me the whole Sunday to organize my stuff and clean my room. Once I started reading books and watching videos on minimalism, I am amazed of how these people easily clean their spaces where they don't have to move boxes under their bed to sweep or wipe the dust under or around the bed. When I contemplated it for a bit, I realized the things that I have stored in boxes or organizers are things that I rarely or don't even use! Plus decluttering these stuff will save you tons of money from buying organizers.
- You constantly buy multiple things in sales. I think the root cause of this is not being contented of what you already own. If you are contented with what you already have and you think you have the essentials, you wouldn't be buying so much stuff, right?
- You squish stuff for it to fit in. The moment I started pushing my cabinet doors (full of clothes) just to close it made me say, "That's it! I'm decluttering!" I was so tired of pushing the door and the moment I let go of it, it would open and clothes would fall. Yes, that's how comical I used to be.
- It takes forever for you to get dressed. It would take me an hour to finally find the clothing I want to wear for the day. That is so much time wasted. At present, I usually pick out the clothes I want to wear for the entire week. It takes me less than 5 minutes to choose and 10 minutes to iron them.
- You have symptoms of asthma or allergy. Excess stuff often attracts dust then mites...or worse...mold.
- You feel uncomfortable with guests over or you feel your space is unpresentable.
- You feel overwhelmed and confused with which task in your to do list to start first.
- You bump stuff or things fall down when you pass through. Or you feel like your place is getting visually smaller. Because it really is.
