Simple Ways to Be Zero Waste at Work
By Simplified by Dub - January 31, 2020
Going Plastic-Free at home was a smooth transition to me. Luckily, my workplace started going plastic-free as well and eventually the entire city effective January 16. These changes made embracing a Zero Waste Lifestyle a bit more easier. That is why at work, I tried to make less trash as much as I can. And here are the simple things I did to accomplish that goal:
Pack breakfast and/or lunch to work. I often times eat both breakfast and lunch to work to be early and do some work or alone time before it gets really busy. I did myself a favor by getting up 30 mins earlier than the usual time I wake up and make a hearty breakfast and lunch. Not only does it save me money but it saves me from take out containers.

Bring/leave reusable cutlery, tupperware and water bottle at work. I always bring with me a collapsible cup, reusable cutlery, my breakfast and lunch box, and extra container for buying food that I like as snack from the cafeteria. And I leave a dish washing soap and loofah sponge as well.
Bring a hand towel. If you wash your hands frequently, do bring and use a hand towel to reduce using tissues.
Stock up with eco-friendly or reusable supplies. If you want to go zero waste with you supplies, you might want to stop using plastic (disposable) pens and opt for refillable fountain pens or plantable pencils. Instead of using pentel pens, choose refillable markers.
But don't overstock on supplies though. It's important to stock up on what you usually use. Don't stock up too much products as the ink might dry before the time you could even use it.
Reduce paper use. Think of ways you could reduce paper waste. In our office, we have this project with the Tech Team in making most of our transactions paperless. Or if you couldn't make this type of movement, going paperless on your own could still make drastic changes like using the notes app in your phone instead of using sticky notes.
Reuse or recycle scratch papers. We have this 3 tier paper tray with our scratch papers which we could still use the back blank part to print stuff that are only needed within the office. And we have a box which we put papers (with both sides used) to be sent for recycling.
What do you do to be Zero Waste at work?
